About
Jerry L. Davis

Former CIA Counterintelligence Officer and NASA CISO. Member, DHS Cyber Safety Review Board. U.S. Marine Corps combat veteran.

Every modern risk has a digital root. Fraud, espionage, extortion, reputational crisis, and physical disruption increasingly begin with a single compromised credential or an unwatched system, and they spread across an organization faster than most leadership teams can convene. Jerry L. Davis has spent his career on the other side of that equation, building the programs that see the intrusion before it becomes the headline. At Sentinel Resource Group, he brings that perspective to boards, private capital, and family offices that need cyber risk understood as part of the whole picture, not as a technical silo.

‍
Davis’s career began in service. After earning combat decorations as a U.S. Marine, he served as a Counterintelligence Officer with the Central Intelligence Agency, where he was a key member of an international cohort dedicated to identifying and hunting foreign spies. That discipline of thinking like the adversary has shaped everything since. He went on to serve as Chief Information Security Officer at NASA, where he built the agency’s first Security Operations Center, and later as Chief Information Officer of NASA Ames Research Center, securing everything from supercomputing and research networks to the industrial control systems behind arc jets and wind tunnels. He also held senior security leadership at the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Education, where he led the implementation of federal and regulatory security standards across some of the government’s largest and most sensitive enterprises.

‍
In the private sector, Davis has protected some of the nation’s most consequential infrastructure and capital. He served as Chief Security Officer at PG&E, with responsibility extending to the Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant; as Chief Security Officer at Lam Research, securing semiconductor equipment deployed in customer fabrication facilities worldwide; and as Senior Vice President and head of cyber operations at Truist, where he led incident response to a criminal intrusion and restored operations without banking downtime. Most recently, as Chief Security Advisor at Microsoft, he advised CISOs of Fortune-scale enterprises on zero trust, AI security, and intellectual property protection.

‍
Davis previously held an appointment to the inaugural DHS/CISA Cyber Safety Review Board, where he served on the Board’s reviews of Log4j, LAPSUS$, and the Microsoft Exchange Online intrusion, and he has advised DHS and the White House as a Special Government Employee. He is a Fellow at the Institute for Critical Infrastructure Technology (ICIT) and a contributing author to Securing the Nation’s Critical Infrastructures (CRC Press, 2022). He holds an M.S. in Cybersecurity and has held a Top Secret/SCI clearance.
